MAGNA has recently hosted the annual meeting of the European project INNOLOG (Innovative Geophysical Logging Tools for Mineral Exploration), whose purpose is the development of innovative tools for the recording of geophysical and geochemical data in mining exploration.
In this framework, the company collaborates as an essential experimentation center. Magna allows to test the prototypes that are being developed in its facilities and, thus, to compare the results obtained with others of classical exploration techniques. In addition, these tests allow a technical-economic assessment of the usefulness of the new tools in a magnesite deposit from a practical point of view.
This initiative is led by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The partnership is composed by MAGNA, the General Council of the Catalan Chambers of Commerce, the Italian Research Council, the Geological Survey of Slovenia, the Geological Survey of Sweden, the Technical University of Cataluña and the Technical University of Madrid.
During the visit, which took place in mid-June, the partners presented the progress made by each working group. Moreover, they visited the mine and factory facilities of MAGNA in Eugi and Zubiri.
INNOLOG, which takes place between 2017 and 2020, is funded by EIT Raw Materials, a worldwide reference consortium whose objective is the promotion of raw materials as a European strength, fostering the sustainable competitiveness of the minerals and metals sector through the innovation, education and the promotion of entrepreneurship.
